DSM-V Assessment & Diagnosis
Assessment and Diagnosis is used when you want to bill insurance, because my practice is cash only. Insurance requires an evaluation based on the DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition) which emphasizes patient participation. A psychiatrist or physician who prescribes medication uses an electronic health record system that has the DSM-V built into it. My assessment is built into the Progress Note and meets the standards established by NASW professional education in California.
